Votran seeks input for transit development plan

Whether or not you personally use Votran, the county’s transit agency, the staff wants to hear from you! The agency has begun work on major updates to its transit development plan, or TDP. The TDP is a 10-year strategic planning document assessed and updated every five years to provide a guide for development of the transit system over the next decade.

So why does Votran want your input? Public participation is an important part of developing the TDP. Feedback from individuals, whether or not they are Votran patrons, provides insight into public transportation needs and issues of the people and organizations in Volusia County and the region.

“Safe and effective transportation is imperative to ensure a thriving community,” said Votran General Manager Kelvin Miller. “While it’s a big undertaking, we’re looking forward to the opportunity to work with the community to better understand their needs and expectations, so we can continue to provide transportation options that best serve our area.”

Planned public involvement activities include an online survey, bus passenger survey, workshops, interviews and comment collection. Due to the pandemic, phase one public workshops will be held virtually from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 16 and 17. To sign up for the Dec. 16 event, visit https://bit.ly/TDP1216; to sign up for the Dec. 17 event, visit https://bit.ly/TDP1217. A public survey is also available through Dec. 31 at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/VotranPhaseI. Information on future events will be announced as details become available.
