Votran route changes include service to new
hospital
Changes take effect Jan. 24
Changes to five Votran bus routes and the creation of two
new routes will take effect in Volusia County Sunday, Jan. 24. The changes
will provide Votran riders service to the new Florida Hospital Memorial
Medical Center in Daytona Beach (off Williamson Boulevard).
“The changes will better connect several of our
educational institutions from Daytona State College and the Advanced
Technology College to the Mainland and Seabreeze high schools,” said Ken
Fischer, Votran general manager. “Routes 1B and 9 are being replaced by two
new loop routes 18 and 19.”
Service adjustments will affect routes 1B, 6, 9, 10, 11
and the new routes 18/19. Passengers should verify their routes and
schedules before boarding. Highlights of the service changes include:
• Route 1B - serving Florida Hospital Memorial Medical
Center, replaced by route 18/19.
• Route 6 - serving Hand Avenue between Nova Road and
Williamson Boulevard, also serving Ormond Towne Square and Walmart; some
minor segments were discontinued.
• Route 9 - serving the Advanced Technology College, is
replaced by route 18/19.
• Route 10 - inbound via Jimmy Ann Drive, service west of
the Volusia Mall is replaced by route 11; some minor segments were
discontinued.
• Route 11 service discontinued on Fentress Boulevard
between Bayless Boulevard and Mason Avenue.
• New Route 18/19 - The route 1B and route 9 will be
combined to form the new route 18/19. Route 19 will be a loop that starts at
the Votran Transfer Plaza, travels to S.R. A1A north to Granada, west along
Granada to the Walmart, then south along Williamson Boulevard to the Volusia
Mall, and returns along International Speedway Boulevard to the Transfer
Plaza. Route 18 will travel in the reverse direction.
Votran placed notices on board buses, at the bus
facilities, on the Internet and conducted a public meeting to discuss the
proposed changes before implementing them - a standard practice before
making significant route changes.
“The input received about the route changes has been
positive,” said Fischer. “We try hard to make sure we serve as many people
as efficiently as possible. We don’t take making changes lightly since so
many of our riders don’t have other transportation alternatives.”
In an effort to ensure minimal confusion regarding the new
route and changes to existing routes, the new maps and schedules are
available online, at the Transfer Plaza and at the Votran main office. The
public can call Votran customer service for route and time-point details at
(386) 761-7700 in Daytona Beach, (386) 943-7033 in West Volusia or (386)
424-6800 in Southeast Volusia, or to stop by Votran Headquarters, 950 Big
Tree Road, South Daytona. Information on the route changes also can be
viewed at Votran’s website at
